Kidsrooms | Scandi-Style Inspiration

I have very fond memories of decorating our boys' bedrooms and picking out furniture, toys and accessories. Of course one of the biggest decisions is the colour palette. Choosing to go with white and pops of bright colour has worked really well for us, and we can easily transfer these elements over to the new house. If I did it all over again I'd stick with the bright white canvas but incorporate a bit more grey, natural wood and some black accents. As you know I'm a fan of yellow, especially when paired with monochrome, and I think in small doses this bright and cheery colour is great for little ones. It's also gender neutral, working well in both boys and girls rooms.

I'm constantly in awe of the beautiful Scandinavian kidsrooms I see online. Playful and fun, they ooze style and personality, combining simple pared back furniture with bright graphics and cosy textures.

I love this black and white bed with built in storage and the cute apple cushions. Open shelves and picture ledges are perfect for displaying kids books.

The Kilim rug on the wall above is actually a colouring-in poster. With our ever-growing collection of Lego, these storage boxes are high on my wish-list.

This delightful girls room has been given a big dose of Scandi-style with a simple bed, graphic wallpaper, prints, posters and quirky cushions.

Wall stickers like this alphabet one look great and can be removed if your kids grow out of them or want a new look for their room. How cute are the paw prints?

Great for wooden floors, rugs provide comfort when playing on the floor. You can never go wrong with stripes.

Kids bedlinen is a key factor and I've spotted some gorgeous monochrome designs around the web. I love seeing graphic duvets layered with playful cushions and warm, textural throws.

Blackboard walls are always are a good idea for the kiddies and storage is a must for keeping toys tidy and clutter to a minimum.

Homes to Inspire | Vintage Industrial in Sweden

This beautiful home in Falun, Sweden, belongs to Suzanne Gillerås and her family. Vintage and industrial finds, many of which were picked up at bargain auctions and flea markets, are mixed with pieces from Ikea, giving the house a wonderful sense of contrast and personality. Fueling my passion for impeccable Swedish style, I am once again drawn in by the gorgeous colour palette of black, white and grey, warmed up with browns and a dash of yellow here and there. Castle and Things

Crisp white bedlinen with pops of colour, bold art, quirky quotes, pom pom cushions and if that wasn't enough, polka dots. I LOVE polka dots! These gorgeous things make up part of the Castle range and are high on my wishlist. I mean, what's not to love?

Created by Rachel Castle, a stylist and writer for lifestyle magazines living in Sydney, Castle is a collection of beautiful pieces for the home, often handcrafted or handprinted. Prior to Castle, Rachel worked in the homewear industry for 20 years both in Australia and the UK and then went on to become co-founder of a branding and design agency. Rachel now juggles designing the beautiful Castle range with freelance editorial work and motherhood.

Oh, and did I mention Rachel's favourite colour is yellow? Enough said!

You can purchase Castle from online shop Castleandthings.com.au or (good news for us kiwis), from Small Acorns, NZ.

The Design Files, one of my favourite blogs, recently featured Rachel Castle's Sydney home which she shares with her husband Daz and children Cleo and Lucky. As expected, there is an abundance of colour, artwork and personality in every room. Here's a peek. You can see more of the Castle's home here.

More of Cleo's room. Apparently her bed is always messy but who
cares when it's this gorgeous!

Yellow Love

My obsession with this colour started from a very young age when I chose to paint my bedroom walls yellow. Perhaps not the best choice back then, especially teamed with Holly Hobbie curtains, but fast forward to today and I would've been quite the trend-setter!

Associated with happiness and sunshine, when surrounded by yellow, the brain actually releases more serotonin making us feel optimistic and energised. Interesting colour psychology, huh? When it comes to interiors, accents of yellow can make a big impact visually. I especially love it mixed with white and grey right now.

Here are some of my favourite finds.
