Interview | Sebastian & Edith

Unique Home Mobile | Green and Grey

Sebastian & Edith is the design studio of Zakary Kinnaird and Bryony Hawkhead. The pair met in their first year at design school nine years ago and have been a creative team ever since.

Residing in rural New Zealand their beautifully natural designs are inspired by an awareness of the changing seasons and a love of the rugged NZ coastline.

Individually hand crafted by Sebastian & Edith and delicately constructed with love and care they describe their designs as 'Simple, Pure, Natural and Delightful'.

I recently chased down Zachary and Bryony and they were kind enough to answer a few questions...

Your first product is a beautiful mobile. I love the natural materials and minimalist design. What was your inspiration?

The mobiles are inspired by the felt circles. The felt is made of Merino Wool remnants that are originally dyed in Germany to specific Pantone colours. Felt is of course 100% recyclable, as are all the materials we use in our products.

How did the name Sebastian & Edith come about?

They are our middle names Zakary (Sebastian) Kinnaird and Bryony
(Edith) Hawkhead.

Tell me about your backgrounds and what path led you to where you are today?

Bryony is an Interior Architect and I am an Industrial Designer with a Masters in Semiology. More recently we have developed a love of raw materials (natural polymers) such as wool, felt, linen, cotton, paper etc. The mobiles are the first of a series of products we are currently developing and we hope that our customers will really enjoy.

Eco Friendly Baby Mobile | Green and Blue
Bright Candy Child's Mobile | Blue and Red

With stunning products like these, I have no doubt they will be enjoyed by customers world-wide. Sebastian & Edith mobiles are available to buy from their shop on Etsy, here.
