Check In | Wiesergut Hotel, Austria

It's been such a long time since my last Check In post, because I simply haven't discovered any standout hotels to share with you, that haven't already been around the Internet. Recently I came across the Wiesergut Hotel in the small alpine town of Saalbach-Hinterglemm in Austria and that all changed. Stunning architecture, beautiful interiors and an incredible ski-slope location providing expansive views, make this resort hotel a must see.

The Wiesergut is a small hotel resort made up of Manor and Garden Suites, the latter having direct access to the skiing and hiking area in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. While the Manor suites are pared-back and serene in quality, with white walls and a minimalist aesthetic, the Garden Suites below are darker and more rustic, thanks to wood panelling on the ceiling and stone detailing on the walls. I also love the monochrome palette and pale wood in the restaurant, bar (above) and quiet library. Fresh herbs and vegetables are sourced from the courtyard garden, promising a selection of hearty and healthy meals.

Judging by the stunning interiors, I would imagine this hotel would appeal to design savvy travellers wanting to experience all that the outdoors has to offer, as well as luxury and comfort indoors. Bespoke furnishings, an amazing collection of lighting and materials such as untreated wood, natural stone and weathered leather provide an exquisite mix of textures and a warm, cosy atmosphere.

The calming neutral palette, rustic wood furniture and hand-blown glass pendant lights in the Manor Suite make it my favourite...

What could be better after coming in off the ski slopes, then indulging in a spa treatment or a leisurely swim in the heated pool...

Check In | Hotel Daniel

It was actually the branding of Hotel Daniel that caught my eye initially. The cool, stylish design is the work of an award-winning design agency in Austria, Moodley Brand Identity. Created with Hotel Daniel's idea of 'Smart Luxury' for the modern traveller in mind, the simple black and white graphics and clever details really hit the mark.

With locations in Graz and Vienna, I especially love the look of the Daniel Bakery in the Vienna hotel, with its bright interior, vintage styling and relaxed vibe. Culinary delights from around the world, including a range of specialty desserts and bakery treats, are available to guests as well as locals.

I'm off to look at kitchens today, for the new house. It's been a long time coming, but the build has officially commenced, and we're all super excited. The boys are especially taken with the digger right now! I hope you all have a lovely weekend planned. I'll be back tomorrow with an inspiring home.

Check In | San Giorgio Hotel, Mykonos

We're right in the swing of school holidays here in NZ so it's all about the kids right now. We're having loads of fun, but I do find myself dreaming of an exotic escape from time to time. The San Giorgio Hotel would do nicely! Located on the island of Mykonos, one of the top tourist destinations in Greece, it is nestled between the beautiful Paradise and Paraga beaches. Known to be one of the most scenic areas of the island, it also has a cosmopolitan flair and vibrant night-life.

Location aside, it's the beautiful design of this hotel that has me pining. A collaboration between Thomas Heyne and Mario Hertel of the world-famous Paradise Club, and Design Hotels, the 34-room boutique hotel is stunning. I love the Mediterranean style with its neutral colour palette and simple, rustic decor. Can't you just picture yourself on one of those swing seats with a good book, or lazing on an outdoor hammock, poolside. I sure can!

You will find more photographs over at lambsandlions.com, the site of Michael Schickinger, who is responsible for the creative direction, interior design and experience concept of this amazing hotel. I must also thank flodeau.com, where I first spotted this great find. You can visit sangiorgio-mykonoshotel.com for more information on facilities and bookings.

Right, back to the kids... and more day-dreaming!

Check In | Hotel Wiesler

I haven't published a 'Check In' post in a while, most probably due to my short attention span. I'm like a magpie, constantly being drawn to shiny new things. Luckily I keep a file of the hotels that have caught my eye and today I've been going back through them. I've chosen to write about the Hotel Wiesler in Graz, Austria because it has the kind of character I would look for in a hotel - if I was lucky enough to be travelling this far afield!

Located in the heart of Graz, by the River Mur, the Hotel Wiesler was established in 1909. Although the historic building has been given new life, great care has been taken to preserve it's original beauty and the wonderful memories and stories that come with it. The result is a unique combination of old and new: beautiful vintage fixtures and striking modern design. An area known for its young creatives, Hotel Wiesler is surrounded by bars and shops. Favoured by cosmopolitan tourists and business travellers in search of contemporary urban luxury, the hotel's aim is 'for guests to enjoy the freedom simply to be themselves - in an open, international environment.'

These photographs are stunning. I'm not sure who the photographer is but I love how they have captured the light.

See what I mean? Just dreamy...

Check In | Story Hotel Stockholm

Story Hotel is situated in the business centre of Stockholm surrounded by the best shopping, nightlife and culture the city has to offer. Its contemporary feel and location attracts both business and leisure travellers who appreciate great design, an upbeat bar and restaurant, the comfort of easy living and efficient service. These are certainly important features when looking for a hotel but all that aside, it just looks like so much fun! Check out these images and you'll see why.

Interior Design

Inspired by the run down restaurants of New York and the chic avant garde hotels in Paris, the interior design of the Story Hotel is in keeping with its previous life when it was home to progressive musicians and artists. Urban and intimate 'with a jazzy soul' there is no other hotel quite like it in Stockholm.

The Rooms

Described as 'rooms with style, soul and comfort' they are available in three sizes and twelve different types. With something to suit all tastes and travellers, I think this one below would suit me just fine!

The Story Kitchen and Bar

Despite its super stylish, retro modern interior, the restaurant is relaxed and unpretentious. 'The menu is appealingly fresh and eclectic with stimulating dishes and flavours from across the Globe.' For after dinner entertainment the Parisian salon inspired Bar provides a jazzy vibe with DJ's and live music. Not only popular with its guests, the bar is a regular meeting place for Stockholm locals.

The Shop

'Herr Judit', a Södermalm based vintage store is also at the Story Hotel. It stocks a range of vintage clothing, accessories and things for the home.

The Art

The unique design of Story Hotel is further enhanced by the art that is showcased throughout the main areas and guest rooms. A collaboration with Wonderwall art dealers means that many of the pieces have been especially created for the hotel itself, including signed limited edition prints.

And a new Story Hotel is in the works....
