If you've been following my blog, you'll know that I love checking out the homes of creative people. When it comes to the homes of interior designers, it's almost a given that you will find something uniquely inspiring. Swedish interior designer Marie Olsson Nylander is no exception.
When Marie and her husband Bill purchased this 1970s villa in Arild, Sweden, it hadn't been touched in over 30 years and needed a lot of love. Despite its rundown state, they could see its charm and immediately set to work transforming the house into a home.
The huge renovation involved tearing out flooring, knocking out walls and opening up ceilings. Bathrooms were given a makeover and a new porch was built.
The worn iron spiral staircase (above) connects the two floors and was purchased from an old, retired pilot who Marie came across while driving through the farms outside Arild.
When it came to the interior design, there were no arguments over style or choice of furniture. Both Marie and Bill prefer old, even worn out items rather than modern, new pieces. The end result? A striking home showcasing a collection of varied and eclectic things, each telling a special story.
